Architectural Design and Symbolism

Located on the north side of the main thoroughfare of East Chang'an Street in Beijing, the China National Museum of Women and Children stands as a beautifully designed and stylish museum. The building's wave-like curves symbolize the glamor and grace of women. The color scheme, featuring white metal panels with light gray glass, exudes an aura of elegance and purity.

Mission and Collections

The museum, which is affiliated with the All-China Women's Federation, is dedicated to the collection, exhibition, and research of artifacts related to women and children. Its mission is to promote women's and children's causes and serve the needs of women and children across China.

The museum houses over 19,000 items that encompass a wide range of types, including artifacts, images, and artworks related to the lives and activities of women and children. These exhibits reflect the living conditions, changing social status, customs, notable figures, and contributions of Chinese women and children throughout various historical periods, creating a comprehensive narrative that spans 5,000 years of history.

Meanwhile, visitors are provided with a panoramic view of the social and family lives of women and children from an economic, political, military, cultural, educational, scientific, health, and sports perspective.

Exhibition Spaces and Innovative Displays

Covering approximately 35,000 square meters with six floors, the museum features three types of exhibition areas: the Women's Hall, the Children's Hall, and the Special Exhibitions Hall.

The exhibitions go beyond traditional, monotonous display methods, incorporating a variety of presentation forms and media, such as panel displays, artifact displays, sand table models, holographic imaging, virtual reality films, digital movies, imitating experiences, hands-on activities, and traditional games. The diversity creates different thematic atmospheres, providing an immersive experience for visitors.

The museum finished its construction in September 2009 and opened to the public on Jan 10, 2010, marking a significant milestone in the rapid development of women's and children's causes within the context of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
